Life of a Blogger: Favorite Bands

lifeofblogger

Life of a Blogger is a feature hosted by Jessi @ Novel Heartbeat where we bloggers will share more personal details about ourselves.

Despite having started A Page of Heaven almost 1.5 years ago, we still felt we’ve truly revealed nothing much about ourselves apart from the books we like/dislike. So in an attempt to bridge the gap between all you dear readers and us, we’ve decided to participate in this feature every week (or well, try to).

This week’s topic is…

Favorite Bands

JZ:

I got pretty excited when I saw this as one of the listed topics. Not that I have a lot of favourite bands, but I do have a few which are worth mentioning. :)

First on the list is 2CELLOS! Their name pretty much explains who they are. I’m not sure if they can be considered as a band, since they’re a duo (they do have a drummer, not just the two of them playing cellos). I was lucky enough to be able to attend their concert when they came to Singapore, and they’re extremely talented. AND I TOTALLY FANGIRLED OVER LUKA BECAUSE HE’S JUST SO HANDSOME!! Oh gosh. Stjepan can be rather cheeky too, an attractive trait of his. If you haven’t heard of them, do take some time to check them out. I’d recommend With or Without You, a cover of the song originally by U2. They do covers of songs by AC/DC and Rihanna too!

Next is Simple Plan. I vaguely remember listening to their music when I was younger, since I spent quite a lot of time with my cousins and Simple Plan was really popular back then. I began listening to their music again back in 2012 when they released Get Your Heart On, and pretty much love all their songs. Catchy, fun, playful and the whole I-don’t-wanna-grow-up vibe makes listening to their music enjoyable! I really love how they’re so consistent with their sound. Their songs are the same, yet different, you know what I mean? And when they released Get Your Heart On – The Second Coming, I ran to get the physical album. It’s not everyday where you get your fave band releasing more songs which are equally awesome yet didn’t make the cut for the previous album!

OneRepublicThe Script and Pentatonix are some of the other bands which I love too! Recently, I stumbled upon 5 Seconds of Summer, but I can’t decide if I like them or not. They’re like Simple Plan (they’re from the same music genre – punk rock), yet they seem like One Direction (not a big fan of them at all). But I have to say Heartache On The Big Screen, Don’t Stop and She Looks So Prefect are indeed nice songs. What do you think? Should I listen to more or less of 5 Seconds of Summer?

Adelena:

I’m more of a solo artist sort of person so don’t expect me to say much about my favorite bands because I’m not a hardcore fangirl of any of them. But here they are anyway.

1. Of Monsters and Men
I love the folksy vibe their songs give off—perfect for accompanying all the fantasy and dystopian books I’m addicted too. Unsurprisingly, I first discovered them while looking through playlists people have created for The Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo and that fateful song had been Dirty Paws. I’ve been a fan ever since!

2. Imagine Dragons
I won’t say I keep up with them a lot but out of the few bands I listen to, Imagine Dragons make the top 3. Why? I just like their music. Sorry, I’m horrendous a describing songs and music when I’m not babbling about their lyrics. Oh, and yet again, I first discovered this band via a book too. Or well, a book-to-movie adaptation (The Host). I still love Radioactive.

3. A Silent Film
I started listening to their music after Sarah J. Maas, one of my favorite authors ever, said their song, Harbor Lights, goes along with a heartbreaking scene in Crown of Midnight. They aren’t a very well-known band but I suggest y’all give them a shot! Their songs are pretty calm-ish and the lyrics are great too. As you guys can tell, I’m a lyrics and words person.

graydividerNow all of you are one step closer to knowing us! Who are your favorite bands? Feel free to let us know by dropping a comment!

JZ & Adelena

P.S. Adelena: I have to say it’s quite a nice change not blogging solely about books for once. Kind of… refreshing.
